What is 3D modeling?
As digital photography advances more and more, it obtains new features. One of them is modeling 3D objects which has immense possibilities, especially in commercial use. The trick it does is impressive. Basically, using these editing techniques, it is possible to create any object from scratch. It is very helpful when it is too hard, too expensive or even impossible to take real shots.
3D modeling allows to create perfect realistic objects and work on them later. It means that way less retouching, if any, will be required. If you take a picture of an object, it will always have some imperfections, surface defects and there will always be some serious editing to do. Modeling, however, allows avoiding this as the object is almost perfect from the beginning.
Where to use it?
3D modeling is a powerful tool. It lets us create objects that do not exist, also, those that are too expensive or too demanding to shoot. For example, luxurious cars, artworks, objects of large dimensions. Professionally designed models can fully replace photos in this case, it is usually impossible to tell real photos from models. Except, of course, for the fact that models do not need immense amount of retouching and look more appealing in most cases. Sometimes we don’t even need to look for exclusive objects to model. People, items for advertising, food and beverages can also look much better as digital models. Also, these models are easy to manipulate, thus any composition is possible.
Another important use of modeling is visualizing blueprints. Again, there is a wide range of objects here, such as various parts, furniture or even buildings. Usually, the angle we want in these pictures is difficult to manage, a lot of post-production must be involved and the result might still be disappointing. Therefore, in many cases it requires much less effort to create a digital model than shoot a picture and the quality is many times better.
The possibilities are endless, though. After we have a model ready, we can zoom the image in or out, blur or enhance certain parts of it or even simulate movements. It allows to rotate the object or the model in the picture and change their position. These features bring us to the next level of creativity as the laws of reality do not apply here.
